My weekend.

Yesterday I caught up with Ivana & drank a lot of Vietnamese coffee.

On Friday I was taking pictures of Christopher in a "Day-In-The-Life" sort of series. The criteria for this assignment is a joke. No natural light. What the shit. Oh yes, people spend their ENTIRE day indoors.

+++ Christopher bought me a laptop so I can play games (League of Legends) on it. Yay! (League of Legends no longer supports Macs unfortunately.)

Man, this laptop has some weird/awesome webcam effects. There's this one where hats/fire/rain follows the top of your head when you move. I'm going to start making dumb videos and posting them on youtube. Haha

I haven't been taking photos in a couple of weeks. I haven't been feeling too well, health-wise. And I've been in a creative slump. Motivation & inspiration, please!

I've just been trying out Google+. Anyone using it? What do you think? I haven't tried everything out yet but so far, I like how it looks. Clean, simple. I like that they've incorporated some of flickr's features where you can see the EXIF data of the photos you upload. It's not as annoying/intrusive as Facebook, but then again, maybe it's just because not a lot of people are using it yet.

It's been a sad, sleepy, cold, gloomy sort of day and I've been listening to this song a lot.

I like this song.

My birthday was yesterday. I turned 22. I didn't do anything much, just hanging out and a lovely dinner date with wonderful company and delicious food. Photos in the next couple of days. I've lost my camera cable (+ I haven't gotten around to buying a card reader.)

I am going to have a little nap soon and will spend the rest of the night/morning studying. I have an exam tomorrow morning and on Tuesday. You wouldn't think it but photoimaging exams - both practical and theory - are very difficult, I would rather do a week-long assessment than one of these exams. Wish me luck.

This afternoon I explored those famous over-photographed abandoned tram sheds in Glebe..

The place is located right by Harold Park. It's probably easier to get in from the front (I don't remember the street name but you can see a little skate ramp from there. There are high fences but it's quite easy to get into that area. The front gates are high enough to crawl/roll under.

Going closer to the tram shed, we didn't know how to actually get in. We climbed through a hole in the fence. Luckily there were a few people leaving (there were wedding photos happening too..) who told us to climb through a window at the back. "It's a bit muddy" they all say. A BIT MUDDY IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT.

The side and the back had a little muddy walkway (apparently it's always muddy there) where you would have to walk on pipes, milk crates, wooden planks and old chairs to avoid sinking into the mud. The open window is accessed by stepping unto an upside down rolly bin and entering the dark creepy toilets. It probably takes about 10 minutes to walk through all that mud and climbing in.

OH HAI.

The only trouble was all that mud. My suggestions (if you're going in without the gates/doors being open) are: wear boots and if you see large rocks, bricks, crates, planks of wood, etc BEFORE reaching the mud, BRING THEM WITH YOU. You may need it later when you're balancing on a small sinking piece of plank into the muddy pit of doom and destruction. The crates and stuff already there were quite unstable.

I miss France. I love the country. I love the language. I love the people. Everything was beautiful.

Just looking back at a couple of photos I took in the first few days when I arrived in Paris back in 2009.. I like looking at these photos. I was all by myself, I didn't know the language, I had no plans, I was lost, I was free. I wish I took more photos of the Metro. I took that every day! I usually did the whole not-buying-a-ticket thing too but that's another story, haha.

I can't wait to return... (2012, anyone..?)

I went to Supafest last night for a couple of hours..

I got a free ticket (I wouldn't pay for music festivals like this), was in the blingring, saw Busta Rhymes, went into the photo/media pit without having a pass during Nelly's set, got busted afterwards, pretended I didn't take any photos (they'll make you delete your stuff if they knew), went back in the crowd, watched Snoop D.O. Double G. (!!!!!!!!)

My 11 year old self was really excited about Nelly.

I had my tiny little 50mm with me. Haha! I stuck out like a sore thumb that's for sure.

Music festival crowds are so lame. Everyone looked the same, I thought I was in Jersey Shore, too much pumps-n-a-bump and it was just disgusting. I thought I was going to get hep b from just being there.

Imen and I are collaborating on an art project. We are compiling a book of drawings. I'm drawing and he's colouring them in.

HAHA.

One of our next photo briefs is of a window portrait (as in a portrait of someone in front of a window) and here are some joke pictures. Might hand it in for shits and giggles.

Is it just me or does photobucket take some saturation away from your photos? Excuse my photos for now until I find a new place to host photos. Any suggestions? I don't want to pay for photo space...

I recently remembered I have a macbook pro. It has been sitting on top of a box in my room for a while. It's been through a lot and surprisingly, still works. Over the past two years, I have poured hot tea onto it, while I was using it and I have dropped it onto concrete when I was walking from my house to the car. There is some cosmetic damage on the outside (a few stratches, a little dent or two) but it works and that's all that matters, right?

I also recently have become the laziest person on earth because of this.

I should be on my way to class right now but I just woke up and it's rainy and perfect for staying in.
I bought this yesterday. I'm so excited to use it.

Over 4 years of using my good old camera, I've finally upgraded to full-frame. It was one of the last ones left in Sydney. Nikon Japan aren't making/sending products for the next month or so because of the earthquake/tsunami. :( The guy at Georges told me the prices might go up too.

Felt like a tourist yesterday going around Darling Harbour.

Okay let's start..

I had a brief to do for an assignment. I get a brief every fortnight (two weeks) to shoot two photographs of different subjects. for e.g. this first brief requires me to shoot a bridge and a cityscape/landscape. No editing, just straight from camera.

My camera is messed up big time. I set my iso to 100 and it kept going to 1600. What the shit. So I can't use the photos I took but I'm spending tomorrow shooting around Sydney/the south coast between here and the Wollonghetto, maybe borrowing someone else's dSLR. D:

P.S I think I'm getting sick. I've been sneezing like a motherbitch.

Okay, I need some help regarding dSLRs. I've been needing/wanting to upgrade my camera for quite some time now and in the next couple of months, I will pretty much have to. Here is my dilemma. I want to get the d700 as it is full frame but I've been hoping for a new full-frame model to be released sometime this year. I'm thinking there might be a new one coming out soon because they haven't released a good non-entry level camera in a couple of years. I'll only get it if it's a d700 replacement, not a d3 replacement (sorry I don't have $6000+ laying around for a camera body.)

Should I wait or should I just get the d700 anyway? Send/email me opinions please! Switching to Canon is not an option. I dig the 5d & 7d but no, I will not go there.

In other news, the weather is messed up. I hope it rains tonight.

I apologise for the lack of updates. I've been busy with a 9-4 or 5 sort of life and haven't had the time to take photos since the last post. This past week I've been learning some things about film photography which has been very interesting. I've also been to the cinema 3 times.

Faster.

"I Wanna Be Your Dog" by the Stooges is in it. It's surprisingly a good movie (maybe because The Rock barely had any lines in it???) "The Killer" in the film was pretty unnecessary. Some bits were ridiculous as you could imagine. But yeah, it was okay.

The Next Three Days.

Am I the only Australian who doesn't like Russell Crowe? The film was good, probably something I wouldn't pay for. It was stressful to watch though because the whole time (all the way until the very last scene) I was just thinking, "he's definitely going to get caught".

127 Hours.

Blah blah blah it's great blah blah blah. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film (James Franco is one of my favourites. & Trainspotting is a very good film) however, I thought it could've been better and I feel like it's turning into one of those films that people are saying "oh my god! it's the best movie of all time blah blah blah my other favourite movie is Sex & the City blah blah blah" (a little too hyped up.. think "Slumdog Millionaire".)

If you ever walk around in the city and think, "man, I really want waffles right now", go to Max Brenner. It does not matter where in the city you are, just go there. Don't be like Christopher and I. Yesterday after lunch and buying Pokemon cards, we decided to go to Max Brenner. On our trek there, we decided it was too hot and too far to walk so we thought the nearby Chocolate Room (the corner of Bathurst and Sussex street) will be good enough. BIG MISTAKE. We should've known when we entered and we were the only ones there.

Don't be fooled by the pictures. It was not pleasant to eat. The waffles weren't even cooked properly. D:

Then I caught up with Zig (a.k.a Kate) who I haven't seen in over half a year! We wandered around Oxford Street and checked out the Reverse Garbage store that just opened a few months ago.

Ass/booty coffee tables. Reminded me of the milkbar in A Clockwork Orange.

Then we went across the street to Coco Cubano.

Lemon, lime + mint iced tea. Best drink to have when it's 30+ degrees celcius and you're melting and disgustingly sweaty.

One of my purchases. Recordings from astronauts who walked on the moon. I'm listening to it now. Kind of creepy/cool.

I watched Black Swan last night. I didn't know much about the film before going in, except that it was a thriller. I personally thought the film was great. I would definitely see it again.

Here's a face I most definitely did not want to see on a big billboard. This was just at the airport yesterday. P&O billboards just for Oprah when she was here. (Lame.) They were ads like American Bush vs. Australia bush. American Barbie vs. Australian barbie (as in BBQ.) P&O cruises know how to kiss ass.

All I did today was rummage through a local Vinnies to buy some records then quickly went home to sit in front of the aircon and listen to them.

I like drinking really really bitter green tea. It makes me want to jump out of my skin a bit though.

Christopher and I went to the park, ate Japanese food, had a sleepie, went to Bondi Beach for dinner, went home, then played Pokemon (the card game) until 2am.

I was hanging around the city today and had lunch with Jack.

Vegetarian risotto.

I don't usually like or choose to eat risotto because it always looks a bit gross as if someone has eaten it and spat it back out but this one was very delicious. They served me a huge plate of food that I barely managed to eat half of. This is at a lovely little Spanish place called Cafe Hernandez (just off of Oxford St....... near the Gaff.)

We made some figurines fight this cow but unfortunately they fell over by the time this was taken.

I went home then I went out again for dinner. This is what happens when you don't cook/have someone cook for you at home!

Sometimes I like to cut everything up in small pieces all at once and then eat it. I forgot to photograph it when it looked more presentable. This was grilled salmon with grilled pineapple, capsicum, mushroom, zucchini, etc.

Oh no, my blog is turning into a bit of a food blog. Sorry!

I spent today chillin' with Christopher in the extreme heat. This cloudy, rainy but hot & very very humid summer really needs to piss off already.

If you're going to get a slurpee, there may be no lids left due to the Queensland floods. Well, that's what the sign said at our local 7/11. Lemon lime bitters-flavoured slurpee is very good.

We had dinner at an Italian restaurant that reminded me a lot of the restaurant in The Godfather in this scene:

Today's weather was terrible for running errands. However, I finally got around to sorting out and printing some photographs for a little portfolio I needed to put together for this week.

Tip: When printing digital photographs at a self-service sort of place, store your photographs in at least two different medias in case one doesn't work. USB flashdrives are highly unreliable. I learned this the hard way.

I had a quick but late lunch.

Mos Def performed a very good show. The set seemed a bit short though.. maybe I was just hoping that he would do more songs from "Black on Both Sides".. like the entire album or something (haha, if only..) AND WHERE WAS TALIB?!? The crowd was an interesting mix. Someone smelled of dirty nappies.

I'm a bit ugh that it's at the Oxford Art Factory though... Haven't been in there for a long time. The last few times I was there, I was not diggin' the crowd. Remember when Sydney's live music scene was a lot better than it is today? When there were more venues with live music? Late 2007 til early 2009 a.k.a the times when I went to gigs once, twice, sometimes even three times a week.
Ahh.. the good ol' days...
